“Architecture is no longer just about drawing lines. It’s about adapting thoughts to tools, and tools to a rapidly changing world.”— LZK Architecture
Recently, we had the opportunity to give a talk at the Chamber of Architects in Izmir titled:

"The Future of Architecture & AI: Are Architects Still Needed?"
This question is not new. In fact, it's a timeless one — asked every time technology makes a leap. But today, that question has a different weight, as we stand at the intersection of human creativity and machine intelligence.
A Short History of a Long Journey
We began with the first architects, who carved their plans onto stone tablets. Then came leather, paper, and computers. Each step made drawing easier and more accessible — but also raised a new concern: “If everyone can draw, do we still need architects?”
And now, AI is in the picture.
What used to require years of experience and software knowledge can now be done by anyone with a smartphone and the right prompt. The role of the architect is being redefined, not eliminated.

We Used to Say "We Draw, You Build" — Now It’s "We Adapt, We Build"
In the early 2000s, when we founded our firm, we were one of the few offices creating 3D visualizations in-house. One of our first clients was an experienced architect who said, “I don't have time to learn computer drawing. Can you handle that part?”
Two decades later, we found ourselves asking the same question — this time about AI.
But instead of giving up, we leaned in.
Thanks to events like “AI Season at the Chamber”, we gained clarity and direction on integrating AI tools into our workflows. And the impact has been transformational.

What Did AI Change for Us?
3D renderings that took 11 days in 2003, now take 11 seconds in 2025
Legal contracts that used to take 5 days can now be generated and reviewed in 5 minutes
Our website, which sat idle for years, was rebuilt in hours
Content, visuals, and documents that once required teams or outsourcing are now created in-house with creative control

It’s not about replacing the architect. It’s about freeing the architect to focus on what truly matters: design thinking, decision-making, and vision.
So, Are Architects Still Needed?
Absolutely. But only those who adapt will stay relevant.Architecture today is not just about mastering tools — it’s about thinking flexibly, creating across mediums, and shaping the future with both intuition and technology.
We started with Rapido pens and T-squares, and now we code, visualize, and build in dimensions unimagined before.

The tools will always change. The need for thoughtful design won’t.
